Flock to Weekend Along Farm Trails
Sonoma
County Farms Open their Doors for a Special
Event
September 29-30, 2007
(Sonoma County, CA--June 19, 2007)
Sonoma County Farm Trails is celebrating
their 35th anniversary by hosting an inaugural
event --Weekend Along Farm Trails. On September
29 and 30, 2007, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
scores of Sonoma County farms will open
their doors during fall harvest with a variety
of fun and educational activities. With
a specially produced Map & Guide, the
public is invited to explore some of the
county's finest agricultural treasures:
from local honey, organic mushrooms, Crane
Melons and Asian pears, to handcrafted fiber
products, fresh flowers, artisan cheeses
and more.
Farm
visits are a growing trend that give people
a rare chance to see how and where their
food is produced. Nothing compares to the
pleasure of tasting and buying fresh picked
produce from the source. Families enjoy
life-on-the-farm experiences with horses,
goats, chickens, llamas, honeybees, birds,
and even a camel named Mel. Kick off the
fall season at one of the many Sonoma County
pumpkin patches loaded with fun activities
for kids. Many farms will offer informative
tours where visitors can meet with knowledgeable
farmers as they share their life's work.
Throughout
the weekend, participating restaurants will
provide special menus created from fresh
seasonal local ingredients. Local Farm Markets
will offer market tours showcasing a variety
of Farm Trails products. It promises to
be a memorable weekend of fun, adventure,
wonderful foods and learning about Sonoma
County agriculture.
Beginning
August 1, 2007, a comprehensive listing
of participating farms and activities will
be available at www.farmtrails.org.
A printable guide, with descriptions, addresses
and maps will also be available from the
Web site.
Sonoma
County Farm Trails is a non-profit organization
formed in 1973 to promote buying fresh food
directly from the farm. With a visionary
plan and the dedication of members, Farm
Trails pioneered networking small, privately
owned farms and marketing them as a group
to the public. Their success is measured
by the thousands who request the annual
free Map & Guide every year and the
countless farm adventures experienced by
young and old.
